Take Root opened back in January of 2013. By day a yoga studio for children. By night a very small restaurant for only twelve guests.
The restaurant is located in Carroll Gardens (187 Sackett Street). Just a taxi drive away from lower Manhattan in New York. When you arrive at Take Root you are welcomed by Anna Hieronimus (the host) and Elise Kornack (the chef) - former sous chef at Aquavit.
Anna and Elise run Take Root three nights a week. Alone. So what started as a supper club at their apartment is now a successful restaurant with one star in Guide Michelin. Well done!
There are no choices at Take Root. Take Root serve a set menu Thursday through Saturday. With only one chef in the kitchen all guests have to arrive at 8:00 pm.
This night at Take Root started out a bit "heavy" for my taste. The first couple of dishes where somewhat challenging to eat. One example being lamb tongue skewers - simply lacking flavor. I missed vibrant and more clean flavors at the start of the meal.

But I still need to go back to Take Root next time I'm in New York. Due to illness we had to leave the restaurant after only 6-7 dishes. So unlucky. Just to be clear - the illness had nothing to do with the food at Take Root.
I do believe that Take Root within the next couple of years will develop their set menu to something better. Flavor is the key issue in my opinion.
